Caught on cam: Truck drags scooty for 2 km; 6 year child, his grandfather dead
In yet another hit-and-drag case, a six-year-old boy and his 66-year-old grandfather were killed after a truck hit their scooty.
Udit Narayan Chansoria and his grandson Satvik were on on the way to a market on Saturday when the accident occurred near Bijanagar turn, police said. While the former died on the spot, the child was dragged for two kms.

"The scooty along with the duo got stuck under the truck and was dragged for around two kilometers," PTI quoted the Circle Officer Ram Pravesh Rai as saying. The incident occurred on the Kanpur-Sagar Highway NH86 in Uttar Pradesh.
Circle Officer Ram Pravesh Rai said Udit Narayan Chaurasia, a retired teacher, and his six-year-old grandson were on the way to a market on Saturday when the accident occurred near Bijanagar turn.
Police recovered the mangled bodies when the truck was stopped by some locals. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. The accused truck driver has been arrested and investigations initiated, the official said.
The incident was caputred on camera and the clip of the truck dragging the scooter has gone viral.
In the last two months, similar incidents have been reported in different parts of the country. The first such hit-and-drag case that shocked the nation after a 20-year-woman was killed when her scooter was hit by a car and was dragged by the vehicle for 10-12 kilometres. The incident occurred on New Year night.
Weeks later, another incident was reported in the national capital after a car struck a two-wheeler and carried the rider on its bonnet for almost 350 metres, killing two people.
Road Accident in UP
Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country, reported 22,595 deaths in road accidents in 2022, an increase of 1,368 deaths from the 2021 figure, Hindustan Times reported. It has been witnessing the highest number of deaths due to road accidents for the last few years despite the state government launching awareness campaigns for road safety.
