Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday hit out at the Centre over action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (IT) department in connection with different cases in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, saying more than cats and dogs, personnel of the Central probe agencies have been roaming the streets of the state.

Baghel asserts Congress will not be scared of these actions

Bhupesh Baghel

Addressing a public rally in Raigarh, Baghel asserted the Congress will not be scared of these actions. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has all the Central investigative agencies like ED, IT, CBI, DRI and NIA under his control and he conducts raids at anyone's place, picks anyone and sends anyone to jail.

BJP leader Raman Singh hits back at Baghel

Hitting back at Baghel's remarks, BJP leader and former CM Raman Singh said, "After setting new records of corruption in Chhattisgarh in the last five years, now the Congressman who is most scared is Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel."

Singh claimed that if someone commits corruption the ED will obviously come. He said many officers, employees and collectors of the Congress government are in jail for months and they are not even getting bail.

Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh

Assembly elections in the 90-member state Assembly will be held in two phases on November 7 and 17. Counting of votes will take place on December 3.

The Congress government in Chhattisgarh has been under fire from the BJP over various corruption allegations. The ED and IT department have been conducting raids on the premises of Congress leaders and their associates in the state. Baghel has accused the Centre of misusing the central agencies to target the Congress ahead of the assembly elections.
