'Catch the Rain' Campaign Aims to Enhance Water Conservation in Noida

Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma stressed the significance of the Catch the Rain campaign to improve groundwater levels and rainwater harvesting in Noida and Greater Noida. This initiative, part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA), focuses on extensive rainwater conservation in Uttar Pradesh, as per an official statement.

Verma outlined the campaign's main goals, such as renovating traditional water bodies, recharging borewells, developing watersheds, planting trees intensively, and rejuvenating small rivers. He emphasised the need for rooftop rainwater harvesting systems on all government and semi-government buildings and addressing obstructions in water flow to all amrit sarovars.

The district magistrate instructed that rooftop rainwater harvesting systems be mandatory in government offices, primary schools, anganwadi centres, community health centres, and panchayat buildings. Verma directed the revenue department, municipal bodies, and block development officers to list encroached ponds and ensure their timely restoration.

He also mandated that all departments install rooftop rainwater harvesting systems within a week and submit certification. Departments were instructed to prepare water conservation plans and provide geo-tagged documentation of completed tasks to the assistant engineer, minor irrigation, at Vikas Bhawan in Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The forest department was instructed to conduct large-scale tree planting along ponds and the Hindon river and upload details of these activities on the JSA portal.
