Car Narrowly Avoids Major Mishap in Collision with Express Train in Bengal

A car collided with a slowing express train near Khardaha station in West Bengal on Sunday night after passing under a closing level crossing gate, according to an Eastern Railway spokesperson. The incident occurred when the SUV driver ignored the gateman's warnings to stop as he was closing the gate.

The Hazarduari Express, which was decelerating at the time, struck the rear of the car around 8:40 pm. Fortunately, the SUV had no passengers, and the driver did not sustain major injuries. "This could have been a major accident," said the Railway spokesperson.

Driver Flees Scene

After the collision, the car's driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. The Eastern Railway has lodged an FIR against him and requested state police to initiate a case. Preliminary reports indicate that there are no injuries to the driver who fled.

Following the collision, railway and GRP personnel, along with the motorman, inspected the site. The train came to a halt after hitting the car. The express train departed from Khardaha station at approximately 9:02 pm.

Appeal for Safety

The Eastern Railway has urged everyone to adhere to safety protocols at level crossings. "We appeal to everyone to obey safety protocols at level crossings," stated an Eastern Railway spokesperson.

The SUV driver disregarded calls from the gateman to stop as he was closing the level crossing gate. The car's rear side was hit by the approaching train's engine during a frantic bid to cross the tracks.

A significant mishap was avoided due to the train's reduced speed and the absence of passengers in the SUV. The driver did not suffer any major injuries.

The collision occurred around 8:40 pm when the car tried to cross under a closing level crossing gate. The express train was decelerating at that time, which helped prevent a more severe accident.

The Eastern Railway spokesperson confirmed that no injuries were reported for the driver who fled after abandoning his vehicle. The authorities have taken steps to ensure such incidents do not recur by lodging an FIR against him.
