Cancer-stricken woman, husband commit suicide

Kendrapara (Odisha), Nov 27: A 65-year-old woman suffering from cancer allegedly committed suicide along with her husband by consuming pesticides at Charigaon village, a police official said today.

The deceased were identified as Hara Das (65) and Sanatan Das (71) and the bodies were recovered from a field in the backyard of their house. The two had ended their lives last night by allegedly consuming deadly pesticides. They had locked their house and ended their life outside, said Nikirai police station Inspector, Kiran Kumar Hembrum, who is investigating the case.

As per their neighbours, the poverty-stricken couple, dependent on their only son who had a private job in Kolkata, could not cope with the exorbitant cost of cancer treatment. A case of unnatural death has been registered in this connection, police said.
