Can You Delete Threads Profile Without Deleting Instagram Account?

Twitter rival Threads has amassed 50 million users in just one day. Thanks to Meta, it is leveraging its extensive user base of more than 2.35 billion active users on Instagram to encourage sign-ups for Threads.

Amid such a huge buzz around Threads, a question that has been raised by netizens is - Can you delete your Threads account without removing your Instagram account?

The answer is no. You cannot do away with a Threads account without deleting your Instagram account. This has been confirmed by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri.

"I've been getting some questions about deleting your account. To clarify, you can deactivate your Threads account, which hides your Threads profile and content, you can set your profile to private, and you can delete individual threads posts - all without deleting your Instagram account," he said. However, they might give that option in future.

"Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it's just one account, but we're looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately," he added.

How to Deactivate Your Threads Account?

The Thread users have the option to deactivate their account. However, deactivating your Threads profile won't delete your Threads data or affect your Instagram account.

Follow the Steps To Deactivate Threads

• First, access the profile, then click on the three-lined button located in the corner.
• Next, navigate to the settings page and choose the "Account" option.
• Finally, select the "Deactivate profile" option.
• This process allows users to remove their Threads account until they are ready to reactivate it.
