Heavy rain lashed Kolkata for nearly seven hours from Monday night into early Tuesday, causing widespread flooding. The deluge affected large areas of the city, according to police and government officials. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecasted that a low-pressure system would move north over Kolkata and South 24 Parganas, bringing heavy rainfall within 24 hours.

The IMD also warned that similar weather conditions may occur around September 25, 2025, prompting community puja organisers to remain vigilant. "We have received emergency instructions to run drainage pumps to clear the roads," stated an official from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
