Bihar News: Lakshman Jhula-Inspired Cable Bridge Nears Completion; Inauguration Soon to Ease Pilgrimage and Boost Tourism: Minister Nitin Nabin

A new cable suspension bridge over the Punpun River in Patna is nearing completion. It aims to improve access for devotees performing pind-dan rituals and enhance local tourism.

People of Patna will soon get the experience of a new cable suspension bridge modelled on Rishikesh's "Lakshman Jhula".

The bridge- built parallel to railway bridge over river Punpun in Patna near Pind-dan site- will soon be dedicated to the public for its use as the work on it has almost been completed.

"The work has almost been completed.. The bridge will be inaugurated soon," Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin said. Notably, the state cabinet had on August 13 last (2025) sanctioned a revised estimate of Rs 82.99 crore for the construction of cable suspension bridge over river Punpun in Patna.

The 320-meter-long bridge- having width of 11.5 meters and approach roads of 115 metres on both sides- will have pedestrian and light vehicle access. At present, devotees either take a circuitous route or walk on the railway track to go across the river to perform pind-dan rituals. The opening of the bridge will not only help in preventing the crowding of a place on the one side of the river but will also spread the people on the other side of the river to perform pind-dan rituals.

It would make the journey for devotees performing pind-dan rituals easier and safer. Besides, it will not only serve as a significant local landmark. The increased footfall is likely to benefit and promote the local businesses including hotels and shops. The bridge will improve access for devotees and boost tourism.

The cable bridge is not only likely to improve connectivity but will also enhance Patna's tourism profile, drawing devotees, photographers in large numbers.
