By-polls in Surat(West) peaceful, tight security ensured

, Dec 4: Surat (West) assembly constituency witnessed smooth polling on Wednesday, reported local media. There are total 201 booths in 47 buildings covering 2,02,877 voters. In all, 14 candidates are contesting.

"Nearly 28 per cent polling was recorded till noon today for the by-polls to Surat West Assembly constituency", an Election Commission official said. "Till noon, 28 per cent polling was recorded. The voting percentage is expected to go higher. No untoward incident has been reported so far," an ECI official said.

There are total 1,03,719 male and 94,158 female voters. Total 1,200 govt employees are on election duty. The administration has allotted 201 electronic voting machines and 10% machines are kept reserved.

To ensure tight security, CRPF men have also been deployed apart from state police. In every polling booth, a micro observant is employed.

The assembly seat had fallen vacant after BJP MLA Kishore Vankawala passed away in the last week of June this year.
