Burglars Flee With Ornaments Worth Rs 25 Crore From Delhi's Jewellery Shop

A major case of theft at a jewellery shop in Delhi's Jangpura area came to light on Tuesday after the shop owner witnessed ornaments worth Rs 20-25 crore missing from the strong room (locker) of the shop early today.

The incident took place at Umrao Jewellers in Bhogal sometime between Sunday evening and this morning.

According to the police officials, the burglars entered from the terrace of the four-floor building and reached the ground floor where the strongroom was located.

They burrowed into the wall to access the vault that stored the ornaments. In addition to those, they additionally got away with the jewellery that was showcased in the showroom.

The proprietor of the showroom, after locking it on Sunday night, found out about the robbery when he opened it today morning. The shop is closed on Mondays.

As part of the carefully executed plan resulting in this enormous burglary, surveillance cameras were unplugged, and an opening was created in the vault.

The officers have been reviewing the CCTV recordings to gather some data before the burglars disconnected it. Until now, there have been no arrests made.

A similar case was reported in Haryana's Ambala yesterday where robbers forcefully entered a cooperative bank and made away with jewellery and other valuable items.

The police reported that the thieves penetrated the bank wall with a gas cutter, cracking open 32 safes. The robbery was discovered only on Monday morning as the bank had been shut for the weekend.
