Now, Burger King India Removes Tomatoes From Burgers Amid Price Rise

Burger King, in a light-hearted twist to its announcement about removing tomatoes from its burgers, placed notices at its outlets throughout India with the message that "even burgers need a vacation."

While this move by Burger King might appear belated, it aligns with the ongoing trend among fast food chains to exclude tomatoes from their offerings.

Burger King Removes Tomatoes From Burgers Due To Rising Prices

McDonald's was the first to make this decision, citing supply limitations tied to its approved tomato variety.

Subsequently, the salad and subs chain Subway also followed suit in reducing the use of tomatoes.

These decisions came as tomato prices soared, crossing the Rs 200 per kg mark.

Burger King's announcement coincided with the government's efforts to curb tomato prices for the benefit of consumers. Nevertheless, commercial buyers continue to grapple with elevated prices and restricted tomato supplies.

Expressing their frustration, a user vented on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), questioning whether Burger King reduced burger prices when tomatoes were priced at Rs 2-3 per kg. Burger King responded, requesting the user to send a private message.

In the notices displayed at its outlets, Burger King shared the message: "Even tomatoes need a vacation... We are unable to add tomatoes to our food," as reported by Reuters.

The Burger King franchise in India is operated by Restaurant Brands Asia, managing over 400 stores across the country. The franchise attributed its decision to cease including tomatoes in burgers and wraps to quality and supply constraints, with an assurance that tomatoes would return to the menu soon, according to PTI.
