Burdwan blasts: Another arrest as NIA inches closer to closure

Kolkata, March 21: Abdul Wahab Momim is the 18th person to be arrested in connection with the Burdhwan blasts case.

A close aide of Sheikh Rahmatullah, Momim is said to have helped modules set up by the Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh in Burdwan, Murshidabad and Malda.

NIA officials tell oneindia that Momim had been absconding since the past year and was an active member of the JMB.

He was instrumental in the transportation of material and was also a close aide of Rahmatullah who was planning a attacks in West Bengal and Bangladesh.

Another lead for the NIA:

In the run up the NIA filing it's final report in the Burdhwan case the arrest of Momim comes in handy.

This is a module which had over 100 members and there were at least 30 very key operatives in India the NIA said.

Momim's questioning would be relevant in the context of the logistics help that the JMB got while it was going about its business in West Bengal.

Momim who was on the radar of the NIA since October 2014 was finally arrested at Sealdah in Kolkata after inputs regarding his movements were picked up.

Exchange of information:

The NIA is also sharing information with their counterparts in Bangladesh. The NIA says that there are several more module operatives based in Bangladesh who would be extradited.

As per the inputs that the NIA has got several operatives of the JMB had slipped into Bangladesh.

The agencies there are on the lookout for many such operatives and information is being shared regularly the NIA also pointed out.
