Burdwan blast: Another key conspirator Amjad arrested from West Bengal

Kolkata, Nov 10: In yet another major breakthrough in Burdwan blast case in West Bengal, one of the key conspirators Amjad was arrested by security agencies on Monday.

Amjad Sheikh (30), a resident of Birbhum in West Bengal, carried a reward of Rs.10 lakh on his head. According to the agency, he was one of the main conspirators in the blast case and was also closely involved in running training modules for the outfit at two madrassas in West Bengal, said the NIA in a press statement.

The West Bengal police had earlier arrested the main accused of the blast, Sajid, a Bangladeshi national and stated to be a Chief Commander of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror group on Saturday and other key conspirator of the blast Zia ul Haq on Friday.

A resident of Kaliachak in the district, Haq is said to be key ‘jihadi motivator' who would motivate trainees in jihadi ideology. According to reports, Haq was closely associated with top JMB commanders, including the absconding Sajid, who is said to be the "chief of the Burdwan module" and Sakib alias Suman."

Report said the NIA team also carried out raid at his house in Malda and seized a laptop which was given to him by Rizaul Karim after the Burdwan blast.

Two Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh terrorists were killed in a blast at a TMC supporter's home in Burdwan earlier last month.

The case further revealed an extensive terror network in the area which raised questions against the TMC government.
