CBI Uncovers Bungalow in Mohali and Other Assets During Raid on Western Coalfields Official

The CBI has revealed substantial assets belonging to a Western Coalfields Limited official, including a bungalow in Mohali and gold jewellery, during a recent raid. The investigation highlights concerns over disproportionate wealth accumulation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently uncovered significant assets during a raid at the Nagpur residence of Sandeep Singh, an Assistant Sales Manager at Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), and his wife, Sweta. The raid revealed 900 grams of gold jewellery, agricultural land in Jharkhand, and a luxury SUV. The CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch conducted the operation on Monday.

Prior to the raid, the CBI had filed a case against the couple for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known income sources. The investigation highlighted that Singh had accumulated wealth far exceeding his legitimate earnings. Among the discovered assets were three agricultural lands in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and a residential plot valued at approximately Rs 80 lakh in Nagpur.

Assets and Financial Discrepancies

In addition to these properties, documents related to a bungalow in Mohali, Punjab, were also found. An official stated that Singh had spent several lakhs on luxurious interior work for his homes. The investigation further revealed that Singh used a shell company under his wife's name to manage illicit funds.

The CBI's detailed assessment showed that between August 1, 2023, and August 31, 2025, the couple's total income was Rs 1.27 crore. However, their assets increased from Rs 1.62 crore to Rs 2.87 crore during this period. This resulted in alleged disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 45.23 lakh.

Role of Sweta Singh

Sweta Singh is accused of assisting her husband in acquiring and holding these assets. The investigation suggests that both movable and immovable properties were acquired in both their names during the specified period. Further inquiries are ongoing to uncover more details about their financial dealings.

The CBI continues its investigation into this matter to gather more evidence and understand the full extent of the alleged corruption. The agency aims to determine how these assets were acquired and whether any other individuals or entities were involved in facilitating these transactions.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat corruption and ensure accountability among public officials. By uncovering such discrepancies, agencies like the CBI aim to uphold transparency and integrity within government institutions.
