Gujarat Minister Harsh Sanghavi Defends Bulldozer Action Against Anti-Social Elements
Gujarat's Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, defended the use of bulldozers against anti-social elements, stating that while opposition parties are displeased, the public supports these actions. During an assembly session, Sanghavi promised firm measures against individuals involved in love jihad, asserting they would be publicly paraded. This was in response to Congress's accusation that the BJP government targets minor offenders while ignoring larger criminal networks.

Opposition's Concerns and Government's Response
Sanghavi criticised the opposition for their dissatisfaction with actions against anti-social elements. He noted that while these elements are unafraid of the police, their attitude shifts when Gujarat Police demolishes illegal structures. He highlighted the demolition of homes belonging to six out of 14 individuals arrested by Ahmedabad Police on March 14 for rioting in Vastral. "Dada's bulldozer," referring to CM Bhupendra Patel, will not spare those causing disturbances in Gujarat.
The minister emphasised that those labelled as anti-social at night are seen as victims by the opposition during the day. He assured that anyone causing riots in Gujarat would face consequences. Sanghavi stated that except for opposition MLAs, the public is pleased with the government's actions. He also addressed Congress's concerns about drug issues, urging them not to politicise it, citing drug seizures from other states like West Bengal.
Crime Statistics and Law Enforcement
Sanghavi countered Congress's claims about deteriorating law and order under BJP rule by referencing historical figures associated with crime during Congress's governance. He cited National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data from 2022, placing Gujarat at 33rd in India's crime rankings, 27th in crimes against children, and 33rd in economic crimes. He asserted that Gujarat Police operate without political influence, arresting individuals regardless of their connections.
The minister reiterated a commitment to addressing love jihad cases, stating action would be taken if someone deceives others by assuming a false identity to exploit girls. "We have to take action for the safety of our daughters," he said, advocating for public processions to expose such individuals.
Sanghavi concluded by reiterating that swift police action had been taken against miscreants involved in recent incidents. He maintained that the government's approach is widely supported by the public, despite opposition criticism. The focus remains on maintaining law and order and ensuring safety across Gujarat.
