Budget 2025: Massive Boost For Digital Learning, AI Education, And Skill Development – Experts React
The Union Budget 2025 lays out a strategic vision for India's education sector, with a focus on digital transformation, skill development, and innovation. The government's commitment to enhancing education technology, fostering creativity, and promoting inclusivity is set to reshape learning opportunities and prepare a future-ready workforce. Here is a comprehensive analysis of the budget's impact, along with insights from industry leaders.
Digital Transformation In Education

The Union Budget 2025 has allocated significant funds for the expansion of broadband connectivity in all government secondary schools, aiming to bridge the digital divide and provide equal learning opportunities. Additionally, the launch of the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme will ensure access to digital books in Indian languages, fostering linguistic diversity and inclusion.
According to a Jagaran Josh report, Rajeev Tiwari, Co-Founder of STEMROBO Technologies, praised the government's initiative to establish 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) over the next five years. He believes these labs will nurture creativity, hands-on learning, and technological skills among students, strengthening their ability to innovate.
Dr Maithili Tambe, CEO of The Academy School (TAS), Pune, highlighted that broadband expansion will enable educators to diversify their teaching methodologies. She stressed that the ATLs will bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, encouraging students to explore problem-solving in real-world scenarios.

Skill Development And Higher Education
The budget prioritises skill development with the establishment of five National Centres of Excellence for Skilling. These centres will provide industry-relevant training and enhance India's global competitiveness.
In the Jagran Josh, Prof. Supriya Pattanayak, Vice Chancellor of Centurion University, Odisha, welcomed the government's continued focus on skill-based education. She acknowledged the expansion of medical education, with 10,000 new seats added this year and 70,000 more planned over the next five years. She believes this move will address the demand for skilled medical professionals.
Varun Satia, Founder & CEO of Kraftshala, noted the importance of linking skill-based training with mainstream higher education. He advocated for short-term, industry-approved courses that align with traditional degrees, ensuring students acquire job-ready skills.
Artificial Intelligence And Innovation
The establishment of Centres of Excellence in AI for Education marks a significant step towards fostering innovation and research. The budget has allocated Rs 500 crore to strengthen AI learning and its applications in education.
Raj Singhal, Co-Founder & CEO of Footprints Childcare, welcomed this initiative, stating that AI will enhance learning outcomes and encourage creative problem-solving. However, he emphasised the need for effective mentorship to maximise AI's potential.
Sukanta Parida, Admission and Marketing Director at Centurion University, Odisha, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the role of AI Centres of Excellence in driving innovation. He also praised the expansion of IIT enrolments and broadband connectivity in government schools, as per the same report.
Professor Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT-Bangalore says, "The announcement of five national Centres of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an excellent decision in Education underscores the government's commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies, fostering multidisciplinary learning, and promoting research-driven education."
He said that Rs 500 crore allocation for AI will significantly strengthen India's research ecosystem and produce a workforce equipped for the demands of a tech-driven future.
"The investment Initiatives like broadband connectivity in government schools and the Bharatiya Bhasha Pushtak scheme will ensure digital inclusion and promote learning in Indian languages, laying a strong foundation for future innovators.
In the immediate term, these measures will boost research and skill development. Mid-term, they will enhance accessibility and bridge the digital divide. Long-term, they position India as a global leader in technology and innovation. IIIT-Bangalore remains committed to advancing this vision by driving AI research, broadband initiatives, digital public infrastructure fostering innovation, and nurturing future technology leaders," he added.
Entrepreneurship And Start-up Ecosystem
The budget includes a Rs 10,000 crore Fund of Funds to support start-ups and entrepreneurship. Additionally, a transformative scheme aims to empower 5 lakh SC/ST women entrepreneurs, fostering inclusivity in business and innovation.
Prof. Ram Kumar Kakani, Director of IIM Raipur, described Budget 2025 as a landmark moment for India's entrepreneurial ecosystem. He stated that these initiatives will create a robust foundation for a future-ready workforce and contribute to India's vision of becoming a global economic powerhouse.
Dr Prabina Rajib, Director of Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), pointed out that investments in AI, cloud computing, 5G, and cybersecurity will position India as a global leader in technology. She also emphasised that increased funding for educational infrastructure will drive long-term economic growth.
Equity And Inclusivity In Education
The expansion of credit facilities and customised credit cards for micro-enterprises aims to improve financial accessibility in education. The government's emphasis on skill-based learning, digital literacy, and global partnerships will help students and professionals adapt to a rapidly evolving job market.

Dr. PR Sodani, President of IIHMR University, underscored the importance of Centres of Excellence for AI in shaping healthcare management professionals. He noted that digital learning, micro-credentialing, and global collaborations will enhance employability and align India's education system with international standards.
