BSP says Atiq’s wife should contest mayoral polls: Here is why

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has said that it wants the wife of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed's wife, Shaista Parveen to contest the elections.

BSP MLA, Umashankar Singh told news agency ANI that they had made Parveen join the party, not Atiq. "We also wanted to stand for the post of Mayor. Till now none of the agencies have shown us a video that shows Parveen being involved in any incident. The day she gets involved, the BSP will not keep such a person. She is still in the party and no action has been taken against her." Singh also said.

Parveen is under the radar of the cops and a Rs 50,000 bounty has been announced.

Parveen had in a gap of two days lost her husband Atiq and son, Asad. Two days after Asad was killed in a police encounter, Atiq was shot dead by three persons who had posed as journalists.

The hunt for Parveen is high. There were speculations that she may surrender at the funeral of Atiq Ahmed, but she did not do so. The UP police is searching all hideouts that were known to them, where she may be hiding.

The police feel that Shaista may have more information on the execution of the murder of Umesh Pal, who was killed along with two police guards on February 24. Shaista has been named in the FIR in the Umesh Pal murder case.
