BSF convoy attacked: Hizbul Mujahideen under scanner
Srinagar, Aug 5: Terrorists owing allegiance to the Hizbul Mujahideen targeted a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Narsoo area of Udhampur. Two persons including one BSF jawan was killed in the attack while six others suffered injuries.

The attack is said to have taken place soon after a batch of Amarnath pilgrims had passed the spot. Intelligence Bureau officials are examining whether the attack was aimed at targeting the pilgrims.
BSF rushes contingent
The Border Security Force has rushed a contingent from Udhampur to take stock of the situation. According to initial reports a few terrorists waylaid the convoy and opened fire indiscriminately. They are also said to have hurled grenades at the convoy.
The attack is a worrying development as the area has been free from militants for a very long time. IB officials say that this was a desperate attack by the militants who may have wanted to target the pilgrims.

Threat to Amarnath Yatra
Recently the Lok Sabha was informed that there are terrorists planning to target the Amarnath Yatra. "There are intelligence inputs about the plan of terrorists to target Amarnath yatra and the same has been shared with security agencies at the Centre and state levels," Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju had informed recently.
Intelligence Bureau officials too have been sharing information on a regular basis with the security forces about the threat to the Yatra. The threat peception to the yatra was particularly high from the Hizbul Mujahideen, the IB had also warned.
