Brunei Visit: PM Modi’s Day 2 Highlights Include Dinner At Sultan’s Palace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a historic state visit to Brunei, marking the first-ever bilateral trip by an Indian prime minister to the Southeast Asian nation. Following Brunei, PM Modi will continue his two-nation tour with a visit to Singapore.

1. On Day 2, PM Modi is scheduled to meet Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, the world's largest palace with 1,788 rooms, 257 bathrooms, and 44 staircases made of 38 types of marble, as recognized by Guinness World Records.

2. Sultan Bolkiah, the world's second-longest reigning monarch after the late Queen Elizabeth II, has an estimated net worth of $30 billion and was once the world's richest person.

3. PM Modi and Sultan Bolkiah previously met during the 25th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw in 2014 and the 2017 East Asia Summit in Manila.

4. PM Modi expressed his anticipation for the visit, stating, "I look forward to my meetings with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal family to advance our historical relationship to new heights."

5. This visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Brunei.

6. At 8:50 am (IST), PM Modi will hold bilateral discussions focusing on cooperation in defence, trade, investment, energy, space technology, and health. Several MoUs are expected to be signed.

7. The Sultan will host a banquet lunch for PM Modi at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace before his departure for Singapore at 11:20 am.

8. Upon arrival in Singapore, PM Modi will engage with the Indian community before being hosted for dinner by Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

9. On Tuesday, PM Modi visited the iconic Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Brunei, one of the region's most renowned structures. He also inaugurated the new Chancery of the Indian High Commission in Brunei.

10. PM Modi also interacted with local officials, scholars, and members of the Indian community who gathered in large numbers during his visit.
