BRS Leader K Kavitha In CBI Custody Until April 15 In Liquor Policy Case

Delhi court has extended the CBI custody of BRS leader K Kavitha until April 15, on Friday, in a corruption case linked to the Delhi excise policy of 2021-22.

The CBI has alleged that Kavitha possesses exclusive knowledge of concealed facts and had previously disregarded investigative notices.

Kavitha In CBI Custody Until April 15 - Here's why

The agency's public prosecutor emphasized the necessity for a five-day custodial remand to unveil the purported conspiracy, as reported by the Economic Times. K Kavitha's counsel criticized the CBI's arrest as 'illegal' and accused the probe agency of violating fundamental rights.

According to CBI claims, a liquor businessman associated with the South Group met with Arvind Kejriwal, seeking support for business operations in Delhi. The CBI also mentioned statements from an approver and Hawala operators confirming substantial financial transactions related to the alleged corruption.

The CBI arrested K Kavitha in connection with a corruption case linked to an alleged scam surrounding the Delhi excise policy. Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, had been detained in Tihar jail after her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case associated with the excise "scam," as reported by Economic Times.

Previously, the CBI had conducted questioning of Kavitha within the prison premises based on recovered WhatsApp chats and documents about a land deal, which allegedly involved kickbacks to members of Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in exchange for favourable treatment towards a liquor lobby. K Kavitha is concurrently under investigation by the ED.

The CBI alleges that kickbacks were routed to AAP leaders through intermediaries within the liquor industry. The agency has filed charge sheets against multiple accused individuals, including former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. The charges include allegations that kickbacks were returned to conspirators through various means facilitated by a cartel that had formed within the framework of the liquor policy, as per the media reports.
