On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi stated that British and vested interests divided India for political ambitions, honouring the sacrifices of those affected by the 1947 partition.

Majhi participated in a Tiranga Yatra in Cuttack, urging everyone to take pride in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abiyan’. "Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is not merely a day for us; it is an occasion to recall that dark chapter of our history when the British and certain vested interests, for their political ambitions, fragmented our Mother India," Majhi said in a post on X.

Partition's Impact and Observance

The partition of 1947 resulted in millions being displaced, families torn apart, and thousands killed based on religion, Majhi noted. "Today’s India has been built on their courage, sacrifice, and resolute determination. On the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we remember their struggle and sacrifice and pay our heartfelt tributes to them," he added.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati attended the observance at Raj Bhavan alongside Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the chief minister. Kambhampati urged citizens to reject hatred and promote unity. "Partition’s wounds left deep scars that continue to influence our politics and perceptions. Yet the politics of hate must never divide our hearts again. Unity must be nurtured through tolerance, empathy, and justice," he stated.

Political Reflections on Partition

Describing Partition as one of humanity’s most profound tragedies, Kambhampati recalled how millions were displaced and countless lives lost when cultural and communal bonds were severed. Pradhan emphasised that without acknowledging the horrors of August 14, Independence Day celebrations remain incomplete. "Without learning from history, we cannot move ahead," he said.

Odisha’s Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj also attended the event, noting that the pain endured during Partition has not been adequately recognised in history. Meanwhile, Majhi joined thousands in the Tiranga Yatra campaign organised by the BJP in Cuttack.

Tiranga Yatra Campaign

The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign focuses on honouring the national flag and raising awareness among citizens. It spans three days across India from August 12. "Today, I participated in the Tiranga Yatra rally held at the 42 Mouza locality of the Cuttack Sadar region. Main aim of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is to give due respect to the national flag and create widespread awareness among people," Majhi mentioned in another post on X.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the BJP government aims to address historical injustices while remembering past events. "Article 370 has been removed from Kashmir, and the dream of ‘One Nation-One Law-One Flag has been fulfilled. Whether it is the border or the world, today India is not compromising its integrity and sovereignty; it is giving a strong response to the aggressors," Majhi stated.
