Bride on the run fearing arrest after opening fire during wedding in UP

A video of a bride doing celebratory firing during her wedding ceremony has gone viral on various social media platforms. The woman has since been on the run to avoid police action.

The incident took place on Friday in a guest house at Salempur village in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh after the garland exchange ceremony. In the video, the bride can be seen sitting with the groom on the stage. After some time, a person is seen handing her a firearm and she fires four rounds in five seconds from a revolver before returning it back.

The celebratory firing, however, wasn't much of a celebration for the bride as the Hathras Junction police registered a case in this regard. The bride has absconded after the police filed the case against her.

"A case has been registered against the bride Ragini, a resident of Hathras Junction area, under IPC Section 25 (9) (celebratory gunfire). Fearing arrest, she has absconded. We are on the lookout for her. We are also trying to identify the person who handed over the pistol to the bride,'' Kotwali Hathras Junction SHO Girish Chand Gautam was quoted by IANS as saying.

''The person in whose name the license of the firearm was issued was also booked on Sunday,'' SHO Gautam added.

"Whoever uses firearm in a rash or negligent manner or engages in celebratory gunfire so as to endanger human life or safety of others, shall be punishable with an imprisonment for a term up to two years and/or fine up to Rs 1 lakh," reads Section 25 (9) of the IPC.

One Piyush Rai has uploaded the video on Twitter as he wrote, "In UP's Hathras, a groom sat with 'kato toh khoon nhi' face next to the bride."
