Breakthrough in Dharmasthala Probe: Human Remains Found at Suspected Burial Site

Partial skeletal remains have been uncovered at site number 6 in Karnataka's Dharmasthala during an exhumation process. This marks the first discovery of its kind in the ongoing investigation into alleged mass burials. The remains are believed to belong to a male, according to police sources. This finding is part of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe following claims by a former sanitation worker.

The whistleblower alleged that between 1998 and 2014, he was coerced into burying and cremating bodies of women and minors, many showing signs of sexual assault, in the temple town. The forensic team has secured the remains for further examination. A detailed analysis will determine the age, origin, and circumstances surrounding the burial.

Investigation Sites

On Wednesday, police confirmed that five sites identified in the case had not yielded any human remains. The first site along the Nethravathi River was excavated on Tuesday with the whistleblower present. Despite using a JCB machine to dig deeper due to water seepage, no remains were found there.

The whistleblower identified 15 suspected locations linked to these mass burials and cremations. Eight sites are along the Nethravathi River banks, while sites 9 to 12 are near the highway by the river. The 13th site is on the road connecting Nethravathi to Aajukuri, with two more in Kanyadi near the highway.

Significance of Findings

The partial skeletal remains discovered at site number 6 could be pivotal in either supporting or refuting the whistleblower's allegations. Forensic experts will conduct a thorough analysis to uncover more details about these remains.
