BrahMos Export Success: Indonesia Confirms Deal To Acquire India’s Supersonic Missile System

Indonesia has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with India to acquire the BrahMos missile system, marking an important step in strengthening defence ties between the two countries. The development was confirmed by senior Indonesian Defence Ministry official Rico Ricardo Sirait, according to media reports.

The deal comes after months of discussions between India and Indonesia as Jakarta seeks to modernise its military capabilities and enhance its missile defence systems.

Indonesia Moves To Strengthen Military Capabilities

Indonesia has been working to upgrade its armed forces as part of a broader strategy to improve national security and defence readiness.

The agreement to acquire the BrahMos missile system is seen as a major step in that direction. Known for its high speed and precision, the missile system is considered one of the most advanced supersonic cruise missiles currently available.

Defence experts say the addition of BrahMos will significantly enhance Indonesia's ability to defend its maritime territory and strategic assets.

BrahMos: One of the Fastest Cruise Missiles in the World

The BrahMos missile is a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia. It is capable of travelling at speeds of around Mach 2.8 to Mach 3, which is nearly three times the speed of sound.

The missile is known for several advanced capabilities, including:

• High speed that makes interception difficult
• Precision strike capability against land and sea targets
• Ability to be launched from land, sea, air, and submarine platforms

Because of these features, BrahMos is considered a powerful tool for both offensive and defensive military operations.

BrahMos Played Key Role in Operation Sindoor

India recently demonstrated the operational effectiveness of the BrahMos missile during Operation Sindoor.

During the operation, the Indian Armed Forces reportedly used BrahMos missiles to carry out precision strikes on strategic targets, including key infrastructure and fortified positions.
The missiles were primarily launched from modified Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets, highlighting the system's flexibility and multi-platform capability.

According to reports, the strikes targeted runways, command centres and other strategic sites, significantly reducing the enemy's ability to respond effectively.
Boost for India's Defence Export Ambitions

The agreement with Indonesia is also seen as an important milestone for India's defence export sector.

India has been actively promoting domestically produced military equipment under its self-reliance in defence initiative. The BrahMos missile system has emerged as one of the country's most sought-after defence products in the global market.
