Mumbai, Nov 17: Refusing to pass any order on a PIL regarding demonetisation, the Bombay High Court today said the Union government's efforts to act against black money need to be supported.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Manjula Chellur made the remarks while hearing a PIL filed by Akhil Chitre seeking directions to the Centre and the state government to ease the inconvenience caused to the common people following the demonetisation of the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Support efforts to curb black money: HC

"The government's intention to act against parallel economy in black money cannot be said to be mala fide.

Though there are problems faced by the citizens, it should be supported," Justice Chellur said. Refusing to pass any direction, the bench said the Supreme Court was already hearing petitions pertaining to the issue and hence it would not be correct for the high court to interfere.
