A Day Before Voting, Several Schools Receive Bomb Threat Emails

Several schools in Ahmedabad in Gujarat's Ahmedabad have reportedly received bomb-threat emails on Monday.

Asia school in Gurukul, Anand Niketan in Thaltej, DPS Bopal, HBK school in Memnagar, Zebar school in Thaltej, Cosmos Castle International school on SG road, and two Kendriya Vidyalayas in Chandkheda and Shahibaug cantonment have received threatening emails, according to a report in The Times Of India.

The email, originating from a server in Russia, contained Arabic text and a threat to bomb schools. It comes a day before voting in 25 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.

Identifying as Tauheed Warrior, the sender warned of "Istishhadi" attacks throughout the city and expressed a desire to establish Sharia law in Gujarat, threatening violence against dissenters.

In response, specialized teams, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), city crime branch, and Special Operations Group (SOG), have been deployed to ensure school safety and conduct a thorough investigation.

Days ago, a few Delhi schools had received similar emails.

In an unprecedented bomb scare, more than 130 schools in Delhi-NCR received identical threatening emails on May 1, claiming explosives had been planted on their premises. This prompted extensive evacuations and searches, with anxious parents rushing to retrieve their children. However, authorities found "nothing objectionable" during the searches and later declared it a hoax.

The Delhi Police's anti-terror unit, the Special Cell, traced the email domain to Russia, suspecting it was created with the aid of the dark web-an encrypted online platform enabling individuals to conceal their identity and location.

Among the educational institutions receiving the threat email on Wednesday were Delhi Public School (Mathura Road), DPS (Saket), Sanskriti School, Amity School (Saket), DAV (Model Town), DPS (Dwarka), and St. Mary School (Mayur Vihar).
