Three Injured in Crude Bomb Attack in Odisha's Sambalpur, One Arrested

In a recent unsettling event in Sambalpur, Odisha, a crude bomb attack left three individuals injured. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night at Pirbaba Chhak within the Town Police Station area, has led to the arrest of one suspect. According to the police, the bomb was aimed at a parked motorcycle, and its explosion caused injuries to three bystanders due to the resulting splinters.

Sambalpur Superintendent of Police, Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, confirmed that the injured parties are now out of harm's way and assured that the situation is under control with a thorough investigation currently in progress. In an effort to maintain calm and order, Sambalpur District Collector Akshay Sunil Agarwal has urged the public to remain peaceful and disregard any unfounded rumors circulating on social media platforms.

The authorities have clarified that this act of violence was driven by personal vendetta rather than communal discord. The accused allegedly sought retribution against Sushil Paika for a previous assault on his father. This led him to construct and deploy the explosive device with the intention of targeting Paika's motorcycle, which sustained damage in the attack.

Following the incident, senior officials including Bhamoo and Northern Range IG Himansi Lal visited the site. They have implemented stringent security measures throughout the city to prevent further disturbances. These precautions include cordoning off the affected area and deploying central armed forces as a preventive measure.

This incident comes in the wake of a communal clash that shook Sambalpur in April 2023 during the Hanuman Jayanti procession, which resulted in one fatality and significant property damage.
