Bodhgaya bombs: West Bengal module of JMB admits to its role

The role of the neo JMB in the recent Bodhgaya incident has almost been confirmed. Two neo Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen members were arrested and 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was recovered from them in West Bengal.

Security personnel inspecting the explosion site after a serial blast in Mahabodhi temple complex at Bodhgaya on Sunday.

During the interrogation, the duo confessed that they had attempted a blast in Bodhgaya on December 19. They also said that this was an attempt to avenge the genocide against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

The arrested duo have been identified as Mohammad Paigamber S K and Jamiul S K.

During the probe it had been found that several modules of the JMB which is active in West Bengal had mushroomed over the past year. The probe goes on to suggest that some migrants may have entered into Bihar recently and planted the bomb. The bomb was planted to coincide with the visit of the Dalai Lama, but the probe suggests that the spiritual leader was not the target.

The JMB according to investigating officers activated a module in Bihar to carry out an attack. However due to poor assembly the bombs did not go off. The incident was controlled from West Bengal, the probe also suggests. A call made from Bihar to West Bengal after planting the three bombs is what has led investigators to believe that the JMB could be behind the incident.

The JMB has been active in West Bengal since 2013. In 2014 a major module of the JMB was busted when a bomb accidentally went off in Burdhwan. It was later found that several bomb making units had mushroomed and were being run by the Bangladeshi cadres of the JMB with the help of locals. The bombs were meant to be transported to Bangladesh where a series of blasts were to be triggered off.
