Social Media Influencer Bobby Kataria Arrested in Human Trafficking Case

Social media influencer Balwant, popularly known as Bobby Kataria, finds himself embroiled in a significant legal battle after being arrested by the Gurugram police on charges of human trafficking. The influencer, who boasts over 3 lakh followers on Instagram, was apprehended on Monday and has been sent to judicial custody following the expiry of his three-day police remand, as confirmed by the authorities on Friday.

Bobby Kataria Arrested for Trafficking

During the investigation, law enforcement officials uncovered Rs 20 lakh in cash and four mobile phones in Kataria's possession. Further scrutiny during his police remand led to the seizure of two additional mobile phones and nine passports. According to a senior police officer, Kataria admitted to deceiving individuals by promising them employment opportunities abroad. However, upon reaching their destinations, these individuals were coerced into participating in cyber fraud activities.

Kataria, along with an accomplice named Manju Singh—who remains at large—allegedly advertised job openings in various countries through their social media platforms. They also reportedly charged their victims certain amounts for these supposed job opportunities. Sub-Inspector Pramod Kumar, the investigating officer, revealed that Kataria had established offices in Gurugram, Sikar (Rajasthan), Greater Faridabad, and Nabha (Punjab). Through these operations, he managed to send 33 people overseas, including 12 to Armenia, two to Singapore, four to Bangkok, three to Canada, and 12 to Laos.

Of those sent to Laos, five have since returned to India, while seven remain there. ACP Crime Varun Dahiya mentioned that Kataria was in contact with one Ankit Shokeen, currently in Laos, who had requested Kataria to send people over. The police are now delving deeper into Kataria's financial transactions and have assured that further arrests related to the case are imminent.

This case sheds light on the darker side of social media influence and the exploitation of individuals under the guise of lucrative overseas employment opportunities. As the investigation continues, authorities are determined to unravel the full extent of this human trafficking network and bring all involved parties to justice.
