BMC Launches Scheme to Support Financially Differently-Abled Individuals
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced the Dharmveer Anand Dighe Divyang Arthik Sahayata Yojana to support differently-abled individuals financially. This initiative will benefit around 60,000 people with disabilities ranging from 40% to 80%, providing them with Rs 6,000 to Rs 18,000 every six months for five years, according to an official release on Wednesday.

Financial Assistance Details
Under this scheme, the BMC will offer monthly aid of Rs 1,000 to those with 40% disability and Rs 3,000 to those with 80% disability. The scheme covers various disabilities such as blindness, deafness, orthopedic issues, mental retardation, and other types of impairments. The civic body has earmarked Rs 111.83 crore for this initiative over the next five years.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
To qualify for this scheme, applicants must reside within BMC limits and possess a yellow or blue Universal ID card (UDID CARD). The application process has commenced, and interested individuals can download the application form from the BMC website. This scheme aims to enhance the living standards of differently-abled persons.
The scheme was conceived by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. It is named after Anand Dighe, a late Shiv Sena leader who was a mentor to Shinde during his early political career. The BMC is currently under state government control due to pending civic elections.
The initiative reflects a significant step towards improving the quality of life for differently-abled individuals in Mumbai.
