BMC election results 2017 LIVE: Shiv Sena wins 84 seats; BJP wins 82
The Bharatiya Janata Party had appointed one person per 200 voters to ensure they exercise their franchise.
The counting of votes for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and nine other municipal corporation elections began at 10 am on Thursday. On February 21, nearly 56 percent voters had exercised franchise across 10 municipal corporations in Maharashtra.

Larger than all the other three metro
10:00 am: Counting of votes for 227 wards of BMC beginsThe BMC's annual budget of Rs 37,052-crore (2016-17) is larger than all the other three metro cities - Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.
91.8 lakh registered voters
Out of 91.8 lakh registered voters, 50 lakh are male, 49 lakh female and 381 transgenders. BJP, which ruled six of the municipal corporations in alliance with Shiv Sena, decided to go alone in upcoming elections. Apart from Mumbai, the municipal corporations which went to the polls were Thane, Ulhasnagar, Nashik, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur. The voting percentage in the BMC polls held in 2007 and 2012 stood at 42% and 45% respectively.
