Chennai: 100% blind girl cracks Indian Foreign Service, thanks mother
Chennai, June 15: Meet Beno Zephine from Chennai who cracked one of the most difficult exams in India-the government services and that too qualified for the top services.
However, there is one small twist that will make you feel even more proud. She is the first 100% blind female officer in the IFS in its history of 69 years.

Thanking the central government, she said,"I am grateful that in order to give me the assignment, the central government has modified some parameters. I did get a hint about my posting as during the interview by the Union Public Service Commission, majority of the questions revolved around foreign policy and geo-strategic issues after I was asked about north-eastern states and had spoken about how most of the country's borders were located in that region."
Bano reveals how hard she and her mother had worked for her success. She taught herself using the Job Access with Speech (JAWS), which is a software that allows the visually challenged to read from a computer screen.
She could also access Tamil and English books. However, she gives majority of the credit to her mother who read out books and newspapers to her before the exam.
