According to police official Zeeshan Siddiqi, the rioting began late Sunday after claims that an Ahmadi Muslim had posted a blasphemous photo of the Kaaba - the cube-shaped structure in the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, that observant Muslims around the world face in prayer five times a day, on Facebook.

Reportedly, the photo contained nudity.

Police said the victims died of suffocation. According to reports, another woman suffered a miscarriage during the riots and was admitted to hospital.

Several minorities like Christians, Hindu and Sikhs, Ahmadis have long been targeted by Islamic extremists in Pakistan.
