The government made it clear that those who hoodwink the poor and park money in Jan Dhan accounts will not be spared.
New Delhi, Nov 16 The finance ministry has instructed officials to keep a close watch on the deposits being made into Jan Dhan accounts. There has been a spurt in activity following the announcement of demonetisation and the government suspects that the accounts of the poor might be used to park money.
There has been a sudden spurt in the quantum of deposits in several Jan Dhan accounts, the finance ministry says. In a statement the ministry also said that there have been reports of some elements using Jan Dhan accounts of poor and innocent persons to covert their black money into white.

The government made it clear that those who hoodwink the poor and park money in Jan Dhan accounts will not be spared. However it also added that account holders who are using their Jan Dhan accounts legitimately will not be troubled.
On Tuesday, Economic Affairs Secretary, Shaktikanta Das said that deposits exceeding Rs 50,000 into Jan Dhan accounts will be scanned and investigated to ascertain the source of the money.
