BJP's ally in Goa, MGP, wants complete ban on cow slaughter
The BJP's ally and an important partner in the government in Goa, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party has sought a complete ban on cow slaughter in the state. A minister in Manohar Parrikar's cabinet and MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar said that the party supported a total ban on cow slaughter in Goa.

"There should not be any cow slaughter activity in the state. The state should also shut operations of Goa Meat Complex Limited, where hundreds of cows are killed," said Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar was reacting to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent call for a nationwide ban on cow slaughter. He maintained that his party's stand has always been against the killing of cows. "The cow symbolises a mother in our culture. If the new government wants to do something good, they should first shut down the Goa Meat Complex," he said. The Goa Meat complex that the minister was referring to is a state-run abattoir.
Goa has a considerable population that consumes beef and the minister's statement, if implemented, is likely to affect many Goans. Dhavalikar claimed that his stand was not only against illegal slaughter houses but also with regard to all kinds of animal slaughter in the state.
