Delhi: Lotus blooms in Rajouri Garden, AAP loses seat and face

The bypoll result came as a massive embarrassment to the ruling AAP with the BJP calling it a referendum on their governance.

New Delhi, April 13: The BJP registered a massive win in Delhi's Rajouri Garden bypolls. BJP's Manjinder Singh Sirsa polled 40,602 votes while his closest rival Meenakshi Chandela of the Congress managed to poll 25,950.

The AAP that was confident of a victory before the election managed to receive a mere 10,243 votes. The victorious BJP-SAD candidate won with a margin of 14,652. The result comes as a massive setback to Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party that also lost the assembly elections in Punjab. The AAP had cried EVM tampering after a defeat in Punjab.

BJP wins Rajouri Garden bypolls, AAP loses deposit

While the AAP conceded defeat before the results were announced, AAP leaders expressed confidence of winning the Municipal Corporation of Delhi poll that is scheduled to take place on April 23. The AAP was a distant third with Congress' candidate trailing in the assembly constituency.

The result is likely to impact the AAP which is already witnessing a crisis with its leaders jumping to other parties ahead of the Delhi civic polls.
