Exit polls conducted by CNN-News18 have painted a varied picture across the five Indian states that went to the polls in November 2023. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to retain power in Rajasthan with a comfortable majority, the Congress party is giving the BJP a tough fight in Madhya Pradesh. In Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is leading in the exit polls, indicating a possible change of guard in the state.

BJP Wins Rajasthan, BRS Leads In Telangana; Tight Race In MP, Predicts CNN-News18 Exit Polls

Madhya Pradesh

The exit polls suggest that the Congress is edging past the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, with a projected seat range of 90-110 for the Congress and 80-100 for the BJP. The incumbent BJP government has been facing anti-incumbency, and the Congress has capitalized on this sentiment. However, the BJP is still a formidable force in the state, and the final outcome of the election will depend on the turnout of various voter groups.

Rajasthan

The BJP is expected to make a clean sweep in Rajasthan, with the exit polls projecting a seat range of 120-140 for the party. The BJP has been popular in Rajasthan for several years, and the exit polls suggest that this trend is likely to continue. The Congress party is expected to win 30-50 seats, while other parties are expected to win a handful of seats. In 2018, Congress swept to power with 100 seats, dislodging the BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje Scindia.

Telangana

The BRS, led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, is leading in the exit polls in Telangana, with a projected seat range of 70-90. The BRS has been campaigning on the issue of regional pride, and the exit polls suggest that this message has resonated with voters. The incumbent Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is expected to win 40-60 seats, while the Congress party is expected to win a handful of seats.

The final outcome of the elections will be known on December 3, when the results are officially declared. However, the exit polls have given an early indication of the trends that are likely to play out in the five states.
