BJP Secures Victory in Haryana Elections Amidst Close Vote Share with Congress
The BJP and Congress had a close contest in the assembly elections, with the BJP securing a simple majority. The BJP garnered 39.94% of the votes, while Congress received 39.09%. Both parties improved their vote shares compared to the previous state elections, with Congress seeing an 11 percentage point increase, significantly higher than the BJP's three-point rise.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 40 out of 90 seats with a vote share of 36.49%. Congress, on the other hand, secured 31 seats with a 28.08% vote share. This time, the BJP is set to form its third consecutive government in the state after winning 48 seats in the 2024 assembly polls. Despite predictions favoring Congress by many exit polls, they managed to win only 37 seats.
Party Performance and Vote Shares
The INLD improved its performance by winning two seats and increasing its vote share to 4.14%, up from 2.44% in 2019 when it won just one seat. Independent candidates claimed three seats in this election. However, both JJP and AAP failed to secure any seats in the polls held for the 90-member Assembly.
JJP experienced a significant drop in its vote share, falling from 15% in 2019—when it won ten seats—to just 0.90%. AAP contested independently and achieved a vote share of 1.79%, an increase from their previous 0.48%. The NOTA option saw a decrease in its vote share, standing at 0.38% compared to 0.52% in the last elections.
Lok Sabha Election Results
In the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, both Congress and BJP secured five seats each. The BJP achieved a vote share of 46.11%, while Congress obtained 43.67% from nine out of ten Lok Sabha seats it contested. AAP, as part of the INDIA bloc, fielded a candidate in Kurukshetra but did not succeed.
The BJP did not contest the Sirsa seat during these assembly elections, whereas Congress left Bhiwani for its ally CPI M to contest. The election results were announced on Tuesday following Saturday's voting.
This election marks a historic achievement for the BJP as they prepare to establish their third consecutive government in the state, showcasing their continued influence and voter support.
