Meerut, Oct 20: Accusing BJP of creating a hype over surgical strikes, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla has said BJP is trying to get "political mileage" out of the strikes and its credit should be given to Army only.

Army had conducted surgical strikes during the Manmohan Singh government also but back then they were not publicised, the Rajya Sabha MP and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association Secretary said here yesterday on the sidelines of a cricket match under Col CK Naidu under 23 tournament.

He claimed that BJP is trying to take "political mileage" out of the surgical strikes ahead of the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Assembly polls.

In the wake of Central government's bid to construct Ramayana museum in Ayodhya, he said that BJP "remembers" Lord Rama at the time of Uttar Pradesh elections. The way BJP is indulging in "posters campaign" in the wake of surgical strikes is not right, Shukla said.

He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying if he has "personal relations" with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif then India-Pakistan border issue has not been resolved yet? When asked about upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls, Shukla said that people are "fed up" of BJP, BSP and SP in the state that is why Congress would form the next government in the state in 2017 under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit.
