If the reports are to be believed then the the meeting conducted by the BJP Central Election Committee would deliberately discuss about the upcoming state polls. It is also reported that the members of the CEC Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, and party president JP Nadda besides other senior leaders might decide the candidature list for the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan polls.

According to some reports, the meeting by CEC on Wednesday meeting is likely to see deliberations on 50 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh and 35 in Chhattisgarh. Madhya Pradesh has 230 Assembly seats and Chhattisgarh has 90.

Last month the CEC had listed candidates for 39 seats for the polls in Madhya Pradesh and 21 for Chhattisgarh. However, the listing had taken many by surprise as the BJP for the first time had announced a list much before the Election Commission of India had declared the poll dates.

Notably, the last round of state elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram in November-December is due before the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
