Dehradun, Sept 21: Taking strong exception to Uttarakhand Congress chief Kishore Upadhyaya's remarks describing BJP chief Amit Shah as a "threat to the country", the state unit of the saffron party on Sunday advised him to practise restraint and desist from making such statements.

"My personal request to the PCC chief is that he should practise restraint and refrain from making such statements in future," Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said. Upadhyay, who is currently touring Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand to interact with party workers for the first time after assuming charge as PCC chief had recently said that Amit Shah taking over the reins of the BJP did not augur well for the country.

"A man who is banned from entering his own state as he could influence the probe into riot-related cases has been made BJP chief. If he is a threat to his own state how can the country be safe under a party led by him," ?

Upadhyaya had told reporters in the course of his tour recently.

"A hardline leader like Shah should not have been made the president of a party which is in power at the Centre," he said.

Senior BJP leader Trivendra Singh Rawat also reacted sharply to Upadhyaya's statement saying "it was very immature on part of the PCC president to issue a statement like this against Shah and he should better watch his words in future".
