BJP Sikh Workers Protest Outside Rahul Gandhi's Resident Over His "Turban" Statement; Seek Apology

Members of the Delhi BJP's Sikh cell staged a protest outside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's residence on Wednesday. They were upset over his comments about the Sikh community during his visit to the US. The protesters, including women, marched from Vigyan Bhawan to 10 Janpath but were stopped by police.

BJP leader RP Singh demanded an apology from Gandhi. He said, "Rahul Gandhi should apologise. He used the foreign land to defame India and gave a statement about Sikhs that Sikhs are not allowed to wear turban and go to Gurudwara..."

Protesters Demand Apology

The protesters held placards and shouted slogans against Gandhi. They accused him of humiliating Sikhs and held the Congress responsible for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The BJP criticised Gandhi for his remarks in the US, accusing him of creating a "dangerous narrative" by discussing sensitive issues abroad.

During an event in Washington DC on Monday, Gandhi addressed several hundred Indian Americans. He accused the RSS of considering some religions, languages, and communities as inferior. He said the fight in India is about this issue, not politics.

Gandhi's Remarks in Washington DC

Gandhi interacted with a Sikh attendee during the programme. He asked, "What is your name, brother with the turban?" He then elaborated on his point: "The fight is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going to be able to go to a gurdwara. That's what the fight is about. And not just for him, for all religions."

The BJP has strongly opposed Gandhi's statements made during his US visit. They believe he is trying to create division by speaking on sensitive topics while abroad.

The protest near Rahul Gandhi's residence highlighted ongoing tensions between political parties over sensitive community issues. The demand for an apology reflects deeper concerns within the Sikh community regarding their representation and treatment.
