BJP plans week-long Independence Day celebrations
Modi also said 2022, the 75th anniversary of independence, would be marked by a "New India".
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has planned a week-long programme for the upcoming 70th Independence day celebration.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said, 'We will start the 70th Independence Day celebrations from August 9.' He was speaking to media after the BJP Parliamentary meet in Library building on Tuesday.
'PM also stated that from 1947, till now India reached new heights but in 2022, India will become a power to reckon with in the world', said Ananth Kumar.
It may be recalled that after winning the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the election results are a foundation for a "New India", he urged people to take a pledge to build it by 2022 - three years beyond the NDA government's current tenure.
Modi had said by 2022, the 75th anniversary of Independence would be marked by a "New India".
