BJP opens account, wins Moodbidri constituency
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opened its account in Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018. BJP's Umakantha Kotyan defeated Abhayachandra Jain of Congress in Moodbidri constituency.
Umanatha Kotian, who s contesting for the second time, stopped the winning streak of K Abhayachandra. Since 1999, Abhayachandra had won the seat four times on the trot. He was the Minister for Fisheries,Youth services and Sports in the K. Siddaramaiah led Karnataka Government.
In 2013, Umanatha Kotian had lost against Abhayachandra by a margin of 5000 votes. Abhayachandra of Congress had defeated the BJ in 20018 and 2013 against JDS and JDU in 2004 and 1999 respectively.
Abhayachandra garnered 53,180 votes with a vote share of 41.29 per cent, BJP's Kotian received 48,630 votes with a vote share of 37.75 per cent.
