BJP Acts Against MLA After Son Files as Independent in Fatehpur Sikri
The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Uttar Pradesh unit has taken disciplinary action against Fatehpur Sikri MLA Babulal Chaudhary following his son's independent candidacy for the Lok Sabha seat from the same constituency. This move comes after Rameshwar Chaudhary, Babulal Chaudhary's son, filed his nomination papers as an Independent candidate, challenging the official BJP nominee, Rajkumar Chahar, who is the incumbent MP from Fatehpur Sikri.

Govind Narayan Shukla, the BJP's state general secretary, confirmed that a show cause notice was issued to Babulal Chaudhary by Bhupendra Singh Choudhary, the state unit chief. The notice demanded an explanation from Babulal Chaudhary by 5 pm on Monday regarding his son's independent campaign against the party's chosen candidate. The letter highlighted a complaint received about Babulal Chaudhary allowing and possibly supporting his son's decision to contest independently against the BJP's official nominee.
In a decisive move, the BJP also took action against Rameshwar Chaudhary on May 2, expelling him from the party for his decision to contest as an Independent candidate. This situation underscores the party's strict adherence to discipline and unity among its members, especially during election times.
Babulal Chaudhary has a notable political history with the BJP. He was elected as an MP from Fatehpur Sikri on a BJP ticket in 2014. However, in the 2019 elections, the party opted for Rajkumar Chahar over him. Chahar successfully defeated Congress' Raj Babbar in that election. Despite this setback, Babulal Chaudhary continued his political journey with the BJP and was elected as an MLA in the 2022 assembly elections.
The upcoming polls in Fatehpur Sikri, located in Agra district, are set for Tuesday. The constituency is witnessing a multi-cornered contest with Ramnath Sikarwar contesting as the INDIA bloc candidate against the BJP's Rajkumar Chahar and now Rameshwar Chaudhary as an Independent. This internal conflict within the BJP adds another layer of complexity to the electoral battle in Fatehpur Sikri.
The incident has sparked discussions on party loyalty and discipline, highlighting the challenges political parties face in maintaining a unified front during elections. The BJP's swift action against both Babulal and Rameshwar Chaudhary reflects its commitment to enforcing party rules and ensuring that its candidates face no internal competition from within its own ranks.
