BJP Names Rekha Gupta As Delhi CM; Know Her Journey From Student Politics To Delhi Chief Minister's Post

The newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislative group named Rekha Gupta as Delhi's next Chief Minister. BJP won 48 seats out of 70 in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly Elections 2025.

Rekha Gupta, a two-time councillor and first-time MLA, secured her win from the Shalimar Bagh constituency. She aims to focus on development across Delhi under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.

Rekha Gupta is set to become the second female BJP leader to hold the position of Chief Minister in Delhi. The first was Sushma Swaraj, who took office in 1998 after Sahib Singh Verma resigned. Gupta's win marks a significant milestone for women in politics within the party.

Gupta began her political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), where she served as Secretary at Delhi University. Her involvement with ABVP was influenced by her active participation in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since childhood. This paved her way into politics.

She has held positions such as general secretary of Delhi BJP and national vice president of BJP Mahila Morcha. In 2022, she contested against AAP's Shelly Oberoi in the Delhi Mayoral polls. Her recent election victory marks her debut as an MLA.

The swearing-in ceremony for Rekha Gupta will take place at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi tomorrow, starting at 11 AM. Senior BJP leaders are expected to attend this event. Preparations for this significant occasion have been overseen by National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, Vinod Tawde, and State BJP President Virendra Sachdeva.

A meeting was conducted at the state office to discuss arrangements for the ceremony. Over 30,000 people have been invited, including beneficiaries of Central government schemes, highlighting the inclusive nature of this event.

Rekha Gupta's victory in Shalimar Bagh ended AAP candidate Bandana Kumari's winning streak in North-West Delhi. She won by a margin of 29,595 votes, showcasing strong support from her constituency.
