BJP's Dinesh Sharma Advises Congress to Prioritize Its Survival Over BJP Critique
BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his call to save the Constitution. Sharma suggested that the Congress should focus on preserving its own existence rather than worrying about the BJP. He made these remarks during a BJP event in Noida.

Sharma highlighted that today marks the 50th anniversary of the Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi. He noted that the Emergency was imposed without the approval of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha, which led to widespread human rights violations and censorship. "Indira Gandhi ji had declared the Emergency without approval of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha and did it all by herself," Sharma said.
Emergency Period and Its Impact
The Emergency, lasting from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977, remains one of India's most controversial periods. It was officially proclaimed by President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed under Article 352 of the Constitution due to internal disturbances. During this time, civil liberties were suspended, the press was censored, and political opponents were arrested en masse.
Sharma accused Indira Gandhi of passing a law that prevented any legal action against the prime minister, president, and vice president. "She made provisions that no case could be fought in the court against the then prime minister, the president and the vice president even in future," he stated.
Rahul Gandhi's Constitutional Stand
Sharma also criticised Rahul Gandhi for carrying a copy of the Constitution during his oath-taking ceremony in Parliament. He pointed out that Congress leaders, including Rahul's grandmother and father, had violated the Constitution multiple times. "Today he is talking of saving the Constitution whose own grandmother, his father and the prime ministers made by his party have violated the Constitution on 92 occasions and made more than 50 amendments to it," Sharma said.
He further mentioned that Congress has shown double standards during the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker. This behaviour leaves little expectation from the opposition party. "The way the Congress has shown its double standards during the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker, it certainly leaves not much expectation from the opposition party," he added.
Congress' Political Strategy
Sharma accused Congress of attempting to weaken the government through conspiracies but asserted that Modi's government would not collapse easily. He referenced Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government in 1999 to emphasise this point. "They have been hatching conspiracies but they do not realise this is the government of Modi. This government will not collapse by one vote referring to Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 1999 government," Sharma remarked.
He advised Congress to observe Kashamavani forgiveness day and seek forgiveness from people for imposing the Emergency. "The Congress should have today observed Kashamavani forgiveness day on the lines of the Jain community and sought forgiveness from the people of the country on the anniversary of the Emergency," he suggested.
Sharma concluded by stating that Rahul Gandhi should apologise for his family's actions during their tenure in power. "Rahul Gandhi should have sought forgiveness for his grandmother, grandfather, father destroying the Constitution," he added.
