BJP MLA of Assam alleges of receiving threat calls over his Rohingya comments

A BJP MLA from Assam has alleged that he has been receiving threat calls over his comments regarding Rohingya refugees and illegal Bangladesh immigrants residing in Assam.

The MLA claimed that the "Jihadi" calls were made from Philippines and the United Kingdom.

Shiladitya Dev, the MLA from Hojai, Assam claimed that he had received two calls. "The caller threatened me from abstaining from making any comments on Rohingiya refugees and on the Bengali speaking Muslim population of Assam.

The callers threatened me with dire consequences" alleged Dev.

He further alleged that the callers had claimed that all Islamic countries remained united on the Rohingiya issue and that Dev being a loner would not be able to achieve much against the Rohingyas.

Reports claim that the calls were made from the numbers +639233809345 and +4455067.

The MLA lodged a complaint at the Hojai police station. Police have started an investigation.

Incidentally MLA Dev has recently raked up controversy with comments having alleged communal undertones.

Dev had claimed that Rohingyas from Myanmar were entering from Tripura and were being pushed into the Barak Valley in Assam by the Left Front Government of Tripura.

The BJP MLA had questioned how could the Bengali speaking Muslim population of Assam demand to be declared original inhabitants of the State.

He had further stated that the "Nodir Shor" (river banks) areas have become breeding grounds of terrorism. He had demanded that the Government should halt all development activities in these areas. This comment had drawn flak from the Bengali speaking Muslims inhabiting these areas.
