Congress Left Red-Faced After Anti-Govt Samosa Incident At Himachal CM Sukhu’s Event
Samosa Scandal Shakes Himachal Pradesh: A seemingly innocent mistake involving samosas has escalated into a full-fledged political controversy, drawing both state officials and opposition parties into the fray. The incident, which occurred on October 21, began when snacks intended for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu were mistakenly served to his security staff instead.
What followed was a CID investigation, accusations of an "anti-government" act, and a political firestorm that has since dominated the state's discussions.

The saga unfolded when three boxes of snacks, including samosas, were ordered from the Radisson Blue Hotel in Lakkar Bazaar for CM Sukhu's visit to the CID headquarters. However, due to a series of blunders, the snacks never made it to the CM. According to a report from a deputy SP officer, the refreshments were served to the Chief Minister's security detail instead.
The investigation report outlined the series of missteps: A senior officer tasked a sub-inspector (SI) with fetching the refreshments for the CM, but the SI delegated the task to an assistant SI (ASI) and a head constable, who brought the snacks in three sealed boxes. Upon arrival at the CID office, confusion arose. The tourism department staff, responsible for handling the refreshments, were unsure whether the snacks were meant for the CM. Ultimately, the items ended up in the mechanical transport (MT) section rather than with the chief minister.
What seemed like a simple mistake quickly turned into a political saga, with the ruling Congress party facing harsh criticism from the opposition BJP.
BJP spokesperson Randhir Sharma did not hold back in his statement: "The state government is not concerned about the development of the state. Their only concern seems to be the 'Chief Minister's Samosa,'" he said. "The government machinery is embarrassed by such coordination failures in a programme involving a VVIP like the chief minister."
CID Probe Labels Incident as 'Anti-Government'
The CID launched its own investigation into the samosa debacle, concluding that the actions of those involved were "anti-CID and anti-government." A high-ranking CID official suggested that those responsible seemed to be acting according to their own agenda, leading to the unfortunate mishap.
The investigation revealed that only the SI who initially placed the order knew the snacks were intended specifically for CM Sukhu.
A Samosa with Political Bite
The case has become a prime example of how seemingly trivial incidents can spiral into broader political debates. The BJP has seized the opportunity to criticise the Congress-led government, turning the "Chief Minister's Samosa" incident into a symbol of governmental dysfunction.
