BJP Chief and Union Minister Booked After Clash at BJYM Rally in Ranchi
An FIR was filed on Saturday against 12,000 individuals, including 51 identified persons, for allegedly clashing with police during a BJYM rally in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Some notable BJP leaders, such as Jharkhand unit president Babulal Marandi, Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, Union minister Sanjay Seth, and former central minister Arjun Munda, were named in the FIR.

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha stated, "An FIR has been lodged at Ranchi's Lalpur Police Station based on the magistrate's statement. Action against these people would be taken soon." Lalpur Police Station in-charge Rupesh Kumar Singh confirmed the registration of the FIR against 12,000 people, including 51 identified individuals.
Protests and Clashes
BJP workers demonstrated at district headquarters and police stations on Saturday against the police action on Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers during Friday's rally. A scuffle erupted between police and BJP youth wing members who broke barricades while protesting against perceived injustices by the Hemant Soren government and its unfulfilled election promises.
The police used tear gas shells, water cannons, and rubber bullets to disperse the BJYM workers. Both sides reported injuries among protesters and policemen during the confrontation. The district administration had enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, which replaced Section 144 of the CrPC.
Prohibitory Orders
The prohibitory orders were in effect within a 500-metre radius of Morabadi Ground from 11 am to 11 pm on Friday. These orders banned public meetings, rallies, dharnas, demonstrations, and gatherings of five or more people within this perimeter.
The clash occurred despite these restrictions, leading to significant unrest. The enforcement of Section 163 aimed to prevent large gatherings and maintain public order during the rally.
The situation remains tense as authorities plan further actions based on the FIR. The involvement of prominent BJP leaders has added to the political tensions surrounding the incident.
This development highlights ongoing political friction in Jharkhand and raises questions about law enforcement's handling of protests. The response from both sides indicates a deepening divide over governance issues in the state.
